Disabled mother restrained during childbirth

A mentally-disabled mother of five is to be drugged and constrained during the impending birth of her new child, a judge ruled today.

The unnamed woman was deemed unable to take responsibility during childbirth and medical staff was allowed to take “proportionate steps”.

At a London Court of Protection Mr Justice Cobb said the 36 year-old suffered from a “borderline learning disability” and is within the “autistic spectrum”.

All her children are currently within care.
